Welcome to JB Pictures!
What Do YOU Want to Create Today?

Good design and bad design exist
only in the eye of the beholder.

Joseph Browning is a lifelong artist, classically trained in drawing and painting. After receiving his BA degree in Illustration and spending 12 years as a professional fine arts painter and illustrator, Joseph founded JB Pictures in 2000 to provide Custom Art and Graphic Design solutions to his growing number of clients needing these services. Using digital applications such as Illustrator, Photoshop, Fireworks, Flash and Dreamweaver along with digital photography, JB Pictures is today a full service custom art and design business specializing in helping to artistically and graphically define other small businesses.

Graphic Designers are the visual interpreters of ideas:
Our role is to translate and communicate
- and occasionally even agitate -
by rendering thinking as experience, process and form.

JB Pictures Credo:

The primary responsibility of JB Pictures is to create design that both works for the client's needs and that is aesthetically pleasing to the client.

All decisions made that lead to an end result of finished custom art or graphic design are purely subjective. What is appealing to one person can be unappealing to the next person. As long as the client is satisfied, the goal of JB Pictures has been met.

There exist thousands of options and countless decision choices in the process of creating graphic design. Our job working together is to ultimately decide on one set of options or one option parameter and go forward from there. Once an option is chosen, however, it can always be expanded upon and redefined again and again to essentially create new versions of that original option.

It is important for the client to stand behind their option choices when working with a graphic designer. It is far too easy to be swayed by other choices, other options and the opinions of others.

Once a design is final and all the options are chosen,
it is the client's job to believe in and support
their final choice of design options when
presenting their graphic design to the world.

Ultimately it is helpful to remember one thing: The better you can confidently stand behind your design choices, the better they'll appear to the world around you and your business. It is an amazing thing to witness. Everytime, all the time.

Joseph Browning outside the JB Pictures studio in beautiful Sebastopol, CA. "One of the best things about working close to nature is the inspiration that comes to my doorstep on a daily basis: birds singing, deer crossing, rabbits hopping and squirrels scampering up, across and down the trees. Here in Sonoma County there is a real sense of the change of seasons and getting to watch the slow evolution from one season to the next is often breathtaking..."

How to work efficiently with JB Pictures:

JB Pictures can create jobs from scratch, from copywriting to all decisions needed for complete websites and print-ready graphic design jobs. To get the best value in the time we spend together, I've come up with the following list of options that you can consider before we work together. Simply stated, you want to be as clear about what you want and as prepared as possible before starting work with JB Pictures. The more you know what you want, the less time I'll need to spend on developing concepts and perusing options and, therefore, the less the job will cost.

JB Pictures excels at providing design services from concept to final product. The initial concept work is really the heart of most jobs and it holds the most value for the time put into it. The conception of the ideas to be utilized in the job go toward determining every aspect of the job.

Custom Art: Anything you can dream or imagine I can probably create. I am professionally trained in Illustration, Drawing and Painting and can handle a large number of techniques, styles, moods and complex combinations of elements or themes. Value Option: If you like a particular artist or era of art, I can emulate and attribute that artist's particular style or that era's general style to your job. There is very little I cannot create or re-create.

Logos: Value Option: If you have your own idea for a logo, sketch it out on paper to have for our initial meeting. Or, look online and in magazines, etc. for samples of other logos. Copy and paste or clip out and keep the ones you like and make notes as to what you like about them. Narrow down your choices of other logos you like to 3. Bring or email the samples or sketches to me on or before our first meeting so I can give you an estimate of the time it will take to complete the logo for you.

Business Cards, Brochures/Rack Cards/Post Cards, Posters, Tradeshow Displays: Content is king in more ways than one. The more you have made final decisions about your content, the less time we'll have to spend on creating and editing it. Value Option: In Microsoft Word or in a basic text program, write out what you want your printed item to say. In Word, you can even add shapes of color and photos. Or, take a blank piece of standard size paper and begin to sketch your layout. Bring or email the samples or sketches to me on or before our first meeting so I can give you an estimate of the time it will take to complete the printed piece for you.

Website Design: There are many steps to create and complete a standard portfolio-style website. Before meeting with me, you should know a few things about what you want:

  • Do you already have a site up? If not, do you already have a domain name (URL) and a host account assigned to your domain?
  • For a new site, what are your navigation links or how many individual "pages" will you need on your site? For an existing site, what changes or additions do you want to make?
  • What is the purpose of your site? What message do you want the viewer to come away with?
  • Do you want to link your site up with other sites to create cross-promotion?
  • Do you want to take control of updating the site after I design and upload it?
  • Do you need to have frequent updates or changes to the content?
  • It's all about the content. Value Option: Write out your website content in Microsoft Word or a text program to create your basic text layouts. In Word you can even insert photos or artwork to get an idea of what you want on each page. Or print the pages from Word, cut out blocks of text from the printed pages and create a loose mock-up on separate individual sheets of paper. Cut out images from magazines or print your own photos/images from your computer and create a rough collage layout for each page. Bring or email me these pages to begin the process.

Copywriting: Value Questions to ask yourself: Determine what it is you want to convey to your viewer, be it someone viewing your brochure or your website. What is the purpose of your business? What are you selling? What is your message? What do you want to teach your audience? What do you want your audience to come away with after experiencing your graphic design element?

Business Branding: Value Questions to ask yourself: What promotional elements do you want to employ in the overall graphical presence of your business? How do you see them relating to one another? How do you see one promotional element supporting another, ie: how does the logo support the brochure? How does the brochure support the website? How do you see all your combined graphical elements working together to help advertise and promote your business?
